After completing a reading of the above article, the following Q & A exchange occurred between M.E. Vidal and Les Estep:

MEV:  See page 150 Estep Book, page 2 of your article:  are you saying S637 Sarah Ann
Estep was not born 10 Jan 1856 on Paw Paw branch of Know Creek, but was born
about 1856?

PLE:  I used approximate terms because I estimated the age using the census information.
The date given in the Estep Book is taken from the vitals of Tazewell Co. VA, I believe,
so I have no reason to doubt the date, but I didn't use it because I couldn't back it up.

MEV:  Shadrack Mashack was called "Jack"?

PLE:  Yes.  In this regard, there is no doubt.  Family members and discussions in the early
1970s with my grandmother confirmed this.  He is referred to as Mashack in the 1870
Pike Co. KY census.

MEV:  When I think I have it figured out, it then slips aways from me.  Here's a question
I jotted down, but I'm not sure it applys now.  Is Geo W. Dotson saying William J.
Estep's grandmother, Jeane Starnes, is Geo W. Dotson's aunt?

PLE:  NO.  This is the biggest part of the George Wheeler Dotson riddle to me.  I don't
think so, I think of it as being applied within the four scenarios of speculation I listed
within the Uriah Estep article.  It seems illogical that he would refer to Sarah
Frazier Estep in those terms also.  I think he is referencing a blood relative, either a
sister of S6 James Estep, or a sister of Reuben Dotson, his father.

MEV:  Who was Geo W. Dotson's aunt?

PLE:  I wish I knew.  This is the key to identifying Uriah's parents.

MEV:  It would be helpful if you could supply data on S7 Sarah.  For those of  us who
are not involved in the inner workings of this line, it would help keep us clear on what
is being said.

PLE:  I can scan a copy of Gerry's family group sheet for Reubin Dotson with her comments
if you like.  I have not concentrated on the Dotsons (researched Reubin thoroughly),
but rest assure,  I will dig further into the Dotson line.    I found the court records
pertaining to the Uriah and Lucinda sibling suits a year ago and planned to research
it last summer, but last year we were remodeling the house and I didn't find time.
Interestingly, again from Gerry, Sarah had a son before marrying Reubin Dotson, who
was raised by Reubin and their other children.  So there is another possibility for the
origins of Uriah.

MEV:  Go to page 140 in the Estep Book:  6th paragraph, lines 4 & 5 -- are the dates of
1 July 1822 and 7 July 1823 correct?  Or should the 1822 be 1823?  I have the feeling
I made a typo here.

PLE:  The date of the marriage was 7 July 1823 and date of the bond issuance was 3 June
1823.  These are stated in the Pike Co KY marriage file #44.  On the 1822 reference,
I have to yield to those who have the original pension and assume that their transcription
is correct.

MEV:  Look on page 707 Estep Book:  Do you think either/both of those Johnson Estep's
could be Richard M Johnson Estep?  RMJ Estep married Sarah Casey 1890, a rather
late date -- he was about 47 years old.

PLE:  No, Richard MJ is found in all census records with his family though the 1880 Pike Co
KY censuses.  And the page 707 Johnson is documented much older than RMJ and
seems to be a contemporary of Uriah and Lucinda.  There are, however, tantalizing
Johnson Estep references throughout the book, but I have not linked any to Uriah at all.
An aside, I didn't know that Richard M J went by the name of Johnson Estep until very
recently, and had originally thought that he remained a bachelor as no marriages had his
name.  Then quite by accident, he was referenced in one of Uriah's deeds as Johnson.
Then I found him and the record.  It was his first and her second marriage.  I also
obtained his death certificate in hopes of clues to Uriah and Lucinda.  Much has been
said of the death certificate of Jack, in particular where it lists his mother as Lucinda
Sloan.  I can tell you that I searched well for the Sloan clan, which she was said to be
related, to no avail.  My grandfather was the informant and I don't know why he stated
that unless he was confused by the Sloan associations of his aunt.  Again, I have found
absolutely NO PROOF of the relationship to her being born of Sloan parents.
